Investment cost of developing 980-feddan New Garden City neighbourhood in New Administrative Capital (NAC), exceeded EGP80bn ($5bn). The project offers 23,000 housing units with various spaces, ranging between 60-200 sqm.The neighborhood will be developed in three phases and will include a five-star hotel, villas, luxury houses, and other educational, sports, commercial, entertainment, and medical facilities. New Garden City’s buildings will be designed according the old French style similar to those in Downtown Cairo.
Located 45km east of Cairo, the New Capital is part of the Egyptian government’s plan to expand urban areas to deal with the country’s rapid population growth and improve the nation’s infrastructure. The minister stressed that work in the New Capital’s towers area is going at a record rate, and a floor is poured at a rate of five days, and the Iconic Tower has reached up to 120m so far, pointing out that construction works in the other 20 skyscrapers in the NAC is running in parallel.

Egypt’s Skywalk Developments is planning to deliver its EGP8bn ($513m) Skywalk mixed-use project in 6th of October City by 2026. The 280,000sqm, 800-unit project includes offices, commercial units and a 5-star-hotel, and is the company’s first project in the country. The project’s entertainment district, which includes a health resort, an Olympic gym, a food court, kids’ area and Spa, was launched by end-2019 and is scheduled to be delivered by 2021. The 5-star property is expected to be delivered by end-2023 and would be operated by an international hotel chain. The commercial area would be launched by 2020. The Skywalk project has been designed by Los Angeles-based JERDE and UK-based GB Designs.
SENEGAL
Project: Construct New 50,000-capacity Stadium

The stadium is destined to stage events at the 2022 Youth Olympic Games. The West African nation will host the fourth edition of the Summer Youth Games in its capital Dakar, the new city of Diamniadio and the coastal resort of Saly. The stadium will be located a few hundred metres from the new Dakar Arena, another Summa project. It will comprise a football pitch in line with FIFA norms, two training areas and an athletics track. The project will cost US$258m and Turkish company Summa is the project contractor. This future temple of sport will contribute towards making this city of Diamniadio an African and a global reference-point.
BURKINA FASO

The inland port project will be established at Mpakadan in the Eastern Region and Debre in the Savannah Region with a 400km freight barge route connecting them in addition to a logistics and industrial park at Dabre. It will involve the construction of two container ports along the lake’s inland waterway to link the two cities. The company was engaging with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding environmental impact assessment and permit as well as the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and Volta River Authority (VRA) concerning a concession agreement.
The project will position the Port of Tema as the leading transit hub in West Africa and enhance revenue mobilization for Ghana and Burkina Faso. It will also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for the residents of communities around the project sites including service providers and manufacturers of inputs as well as individuals with specialized skills across the country.
SOUTH AFRICA
Project: Repair & Upgrade Cape Town Railway Line

The repair works are expected to be conducted in phases with the completion date set to April 2021. According to Transport Minister parts of the railway line have been vandalized hence interrupting the normal transport of passengers. Substations would be repaired or rebuilt according to its current condition while overhead electrical lines will be replaced and the signaling will also be modernized. In addition as part of the plan to prevent vandalism, the transport department announced that it will also construct a four-meter-high concrete barrier along the line and also install security cameras to aid in guarding the line and the substations. The railway line which used to serve Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain, two of Cape Town’s biggest areas has not been operational since November 2019, therefore inconveniencing commuters who have to pay more to reach their various destinations as compared to what they used to pay.
MOROCCO
Project: Develop Northern Moroccan Cities

Eight ministries signed the convention, including the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Tourism. The Medina of the city of Tangier will benefit from MAD850m ($88m) of the budget. The redevelopment of the city will include the refurbishment of traditional hotels, restaurants, and the reconstruction of ruins. The renovation process will engage civil society and local architects. Rehabilitation project is set to take place between 2020 and 2024 to valorize the northern Moroccan cities.
