A total of 77 Sany equipment units were deployed for the King Salman Global Maritime Industries Complex project in Ras AlKhair, Saudi Arabia. Upon completion, the project will be the world’s largest shipyard.
Covering 4.96 square kilometers with several dry docks and at least 15 separate piers, the complex will consist four major areas of operation including shipbuilding, ship repair, oil rig construction, and oil rig support. It is expected to create more than 80,000 job opportunities and drive a GDP growth of $17bn in Saudi Arabia.
In November 2017, Saudi Arabia signed a $3bn contract with China Power Construction Group to build the shipyard facilities. Since then, the contractor constructed the project leveraging Sany machines including crawler cranes and roughterrain cranes, among others.
“This Saudi project is our company’s pioneering project in the Middle East’s medium to high-end market, so it should set a benchmark for those to come after and thus requires perfection in the construction quality,” said Liu Jianfa, CEO of China Power Construction Group.
